Choosing the Ideal Acne Moisturizer

Acne Moisturizer
Why acne moisturizer is important? If you have acne, skin moisturizing is a must even if your skin is oily. This will help prevent the further buildup of sebum on your face.
Obviously, too much sebum will result in clogged pores and acne. Then again, you have to make sure that you choose the right acne moisturizer for your face. Choosing the wrong one can aggravate your breakouts. It may leave your skin greasier as well as result in the production of more pimples and blackheads.
Always read the labels of products carefully. If your skin is oily or prone to acne, choose a moisturizer that is labeled as non-acnegenic, non-comedogenic, or oil-free. Non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic moisturizers are effective yet not pore clogging. Oil-free moisturizers do not contain oils that leave the skin feeling heavy and greasy.
If you prefer a light acne moisturizer, go with a lotion or thin cream. Thick and heavy creams are not ideal because they cover the skin heavily and do not allow it to breathe. Most of them also contain huge volumes of petroleum jelly which are not good for acne-prone skins.
In addition, check if the moisturizer contains exfoliating ingredients such as salicylic acid, retinol, or alpha hydroxy acids. These ingredients can help get rid of acne by eliminating dead skin cells and replacing them with younger skin cells.
Then again, if you are on a topical acne treatment, using products with exfoliating ingredients may not be ideal. Such ingredients may irritate your skin and increase flaking and peeling. On the other hand, if your skin is sensitive, it would be best to choose something that has a fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic formulation.
Keep in mind that fragrance-free is not similar to unscented. Fragrances can irritate acne-inflamed skin. They may also sting or burn if you have dry, peeling skin.
Furthermore, choose an acne moisturizer that contains SPF (SPF15 or more). Going out daily exposes you to the harmful rays of the sun. So, make sure that you always apply moisturizer with sunscreen before you go out of the house. Not only will this protect your skin from skin cancer and fast aging, but it will also go perfectly with your photosensitivity-causing acne treatments such as accutane, retin-A, and benzoyl peroxide.
In case you still do not know which product is best for you, do not hesitate to consult your dermatologist. Most dermatology clinics even offer special acne moisturizers for every skin type.
